For various purposes, graphic and image editing software is often needed for screenshots, image retouching, and sometimes with a need for speed and simplicity.
This is a selection of 4 of my favorite image apps and there are all free!
Notice although there are free, you need to verify their usage conditions if there are matching with your situation.
IrfanView
This app is really useful because it’s a powerful light picture viewer. IrfanView handle a lot of type of images and can convert them easy. In some case, if a picture can’t be read due to its file name, it can fix it.
It also able you to do some edits and has a plugin library for more functionalities. Furthermore, a lot’s of languages are available if your aren’t confortable with english.
RIOT
Do you need to modify fast the size, the orientation, the file type, optimize for the web? RIOT (for Radical Image Optimization Tool) is an image optimizer easy to use to do that.
You can’t get lighter or faster than this one. It’s very convenient when you need to perform this kind of task regularly or process a large number of images without having to use graphic design software.
Greenshot
If you often need to take screenshots, capture and copy-paste into a software can be boring. Mostly if you also need to so some edits like add text, underline, encircle, etc,…
With Greenshot you can take screenshots on the fly using simple shortcuts (fullscreen, active window, screen selection) and edit it immediately.
Krita
If you’re looking for a free alternative to Photoshop, Krita could be your ally. This open-source software is used by graphic designers and companies. While it doesn’t match the power of Adobe’s software and isn’t intended for photo editing, it does offer everything you need for digital artistic creation, advanced retouching, compositing, and more. It supports formats like SVG, vector graphics, and includes tools for storyboards, comics, and more.
